The #8 seeded Southland Rebels were able to hold on and take down the #9 seeded Spring Grove Lions in a Section 1A tournament matchup. The Rebels used a late push, and some clutch free throws to get the 58-47 win.

Southland took a 23-16 lead into the break, but Spring Grove opened the second-half on an 8-0 run to take a 24-23 lead after Eli Solum drilled a 3.

The Rebels were able to regroup re-take the late after a Daniel Boe bucket and never relinquished the lead again.

The Rebels were able to move the basketball and keep the Spring Grove 1-3-1 zone defense from forcing a high number of turnovers. They kept the ball moving, which forced Spring Grove out of position. From there, the Rebels were able to attack and get looks near the rim or from three.

Reece Tapp was great for the Rebels, scoring 18 points to lead the team while Daniel Boe added in 10.

Spring Grove got great play from Caden Grinde, who had 26, and he did a great job of putting pressure on the Rebels defense. The Lions cut the lead down to seven, 41-34, with just over five minutes to go, but Southland was able to go back and push that lead back up to 12, 46-34 just a few moments later.

The Rebels had an answer for every Spring Grove run and were able to make free-throws down the stretch to secure the 58-47 win.

Southland will take on #1 seeded Blooming Prairie Wednesday night at the Mayo Civic Arena and the game will be broadcasted on FUN 104.3.
