The Mabel-Canton Cougars were able to hit at the free-throw line late and hold off the Spring Grove Lions in a Southeast Conference girls basketball showdown 34-31.
With just one week left in the regular season, Southeast Minnesota has proved once again that there are some of the most talented high school teams in the state.
The Grand Meadow Superlarks found paydirt on their first play from scrimmage then the defense took over as the Superlarks beat the Spring Grove Lions 40-6.
Spring Grove trailed by 10 at the half but was able to hold Grand Meadow scoreless in the final three minutes to tie it up and send it to overtime, before winning the SEC battle 69-67.
