Rural Rochester Woman Falls For FBI Agent Scam

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A rural Rochester woman is out of several thousand dollars after falling for a scam.
The 61-year-old called the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office Monday to report the crime.
The woman says she received a call from a man last week who identified himself as an FBI agent named “Mike Johnson.” He told the woman the agency was aware she had been involved in drugs and money laundering.
The caller told the woman she could clear her name if she compensated him. He instructed the woman to purchase gift cards from various stores and then had her read the numbers over the phone.
The woman said she was out of $7000 as a result of the scam.
