Late Winter Storm Aiming to Hit Minnesota
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service says there is growing confidence in forecasting models that are predicting a potent winter storm will hit the region later this week.
A powerful low-pressure center is forecast to move across Colorado, through Iowa, and into the Great Lakes region and deliver precipitation, gusty winds and cooler temperatures to Minnesota by the middle of the week. The storm is expected to produce heavy snow, and at this point, the best chances for the heavy snow accumulations are in South Dakota, Minnesota, along with central and northern Wisconsin. In Minnesota, the best chances of heavy snow are in areas north and west of Rochester.
The National Weather Service is also stressing there are many uncertainties regarding the storm system, including the track of the low-pressure center and how much cool air it will pull into the region.
Those variables could have a significant impact on when rain from the storm will shift to snow and the location of the border between the areas that will see rain, mixed precipitation, or mainly snow starting Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
