Woman Accused of Ransacking Rochester Apartment, Killing Pet
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A woman was charged in Olmsted County Court Friday for allegedly breaking into a Rochester apartment and killing a pet that was inside.
The criminal complaint states officers were dispatched to a residence on North Broadway Ave. around 10 p.m. on June 30. The resident reported she returned home and noticed someone had “clearly ransacked” her apartment.
While clearing the apartment, officers found a woman lying on the porch. She was identified as 36-year-old Angela Spears. The complaint states Spears did not have permission to be at the apartment and that Spears the resident did not know each other.
Police discovered Spears had a backpack that contained burglary tools and also found baggies that held small amounts of methamphetamine, marijuana and various drug paraphernalia. Officers also observed shards of a shattered pottery item next to the resident’s deceased cat, which the victim said had been alive when she left. The complaint indicates an estimated $30 worth of property in the apartment was broken.
Court records indicate Spears has previous convictions for arson, theft and property damage. As of Sunday morning, Spears is being held in the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.
Spears is facing felony charges for burglary and drug possession along with charges for animal mistreatment and damage to property. She’s set to make her initial appearance on July 14.
