Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The man accused of carrying out armed robberies at two Rochester convenience stores last month was formally charged in Olmsted County Court Friday.

The criminal complaint against 26-year-old Adrick Mims alleges on June 5 he threatened a clerk at the Casey’s General Store in the 1900 block of 7th St NW with a 6” to 9” knife, later identified as a bread knife.

Mims took $624 from the register and fled, the complaint states. Surveillance footage showed Mims ditching the knife and leaving in a vehicle investigators later learned belonged to an Austin resident.

On June 16, Mims is accused of committing the second robbery at the Shell Gas N Go store at 3610 E River Rd NE. Mims allegedly took money from the cash drawer while brandishing a box cutter. The complaint states Mims used a pick-up truck that was reported stolen out of Austin to carry out the second robbery.

In an interview with investigators, Mims admitted to committing the robberies because he needed money. He claimed the owner of the sedan he used in the June 5 robbery did not know how he planned to use the vehicle. Mims told investigators he did not know the pick-up he used for the second robbery was stolen.

Mims was charged with 1st-degree aggravated robbery and 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon for the Rochester robberies.

Mims is in the Mower County jail after he allegedly committed an armed robbery in Austin and led authorities on a pursuit last month. Court records show Mims has been convicted for multiple past offenses and has outstanding warrants in Olmsted and Goodhue Counties.
