Ulrich Sentenced For Killing Former Rochester Woman

Buffalo, MN (KROC-AM News) - The man who murdered a former Rochester woman and wounded four other people during a mass shooting in central Minnesota last year has been sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 72 years.

The life sentence without parole is automatic for a first-degree murder conviction in Minnesota of the Wright County Judge presiding over the case added the additional time as an apparent symbolic recognition of the harm Gregory Ulrich inflicted on everyone involved in the attack at the Allina Health Clinic in Buffalo. The 68-year-old Buffalo man was convicted of first and second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, felony assault, and explosives-related charges at the end of his trial earlier this month.

He was arrested inside the clinic after he called 911 and offered to surrender following the mass shooting. He had also detonated two homemade bombs inside the clinic, where a bomb squad later found and detonated a third improvised explosive device.

A total of five Allina Health employees were shot by Ulrich and one of the shooting victims died from her injuries. 37-year-old Lindsay Overbay was the mother of two young children and previously lived in Rochester while she was employed by the Mayo Clinic.
