RPD released an update on the incident Friday.

A news release says “It was determined that the use of force applied by the officer was not consistent with Department policy, training, expectations and/or values. We initiated an internal review of the events and have determined that a suspension was appropriate. The officer has completed the suspension and is undergoing additional training.”

Spokeswoman Amanda Grayson says “ RPD thoroughly reviews every use of force incident. There was no complaint.”

The officer was identified earlier as Craig Sammon, who has been with RPD since 2006. Sammon returned to work after serving the 64-hour suspension but is no longer assigned to the special unit stationed at St Marys Hospital.

Here is a summary of an RPD news release about the incident:

A Rochester police officer was at St. Mary's Hospital the afternoon of November 13th for the purpose of transporting an individual. The report indicates the person became agitated and resisted being handcuffed for transport. It also states attempts at de-escalation were not successful. Officer Craig Sammon then arrived to assist the officer and used physical force to subdue the individual. The police department noted that no weapons were involved.
