Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A young Red Wing boy remains in intensive care at St Marys Hospital after being involved in a near-death accident Friday.

But his mother announced a positive update Monday.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says the 5-year-old boy was with his three siblings and their father for a fishing outing on the Mississippi River in Red Wing when the boat became disabled and was hit by a barge.

While 45-year-old Jeremy Koenig and his other three children were rescued right away, there was no sign of Vincent.

His mother Rachel Koenig says “Vincent was stuck underneath and thank goodness he was wearing shoes with orange bottoms. Jeremy spotted his shoes and was able to find him. It is unknown how long Vincent was submerged underwater.”

Bystanders performed CPR until paramedics arrived and the young boy was airlifted to Rochester. His mother says her son did not have a heartbeat for 45 minutes.
