Rochester City Council To Review Current Camera Programs/Policies

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Did you know the city of Rochester is currently operating and maintaining more than 500 “fixed base” cameras?

And the number continues to grow.

The City Council will be briefed on the existing system Monday and discuss any possible changes to the current policy that governs their use.

The city says the purpose of its cameras is for “the safety and security of its facilities and its citizens.”

Included in the presentation and discussion will be the police department’s squad car and body cameras.

The police department also uses live feeds from downtown cameras to monitor activity.

A downtown camera played a major role in the investigation of a murder earlier this year.
