MSU-Mankato Pitcher Throws Shutout Day After Mom Dies
When I saw this story, I couldn't believe it. A pitcher from Minnesota State University, Mankato, Brody Rodning, pitched in a game at U.S Bank Stadium. The back story is what is unusual.
Rodning's mother, Tiffany, passed away the day before the game. Rodning took the mound for her, and threw a shutout, helping his Mavericks defeat the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs 1-0.
WCCO-TV in Minneapolis did a story on him and his journey through the game. It will leave you in tears. A wonderful job done by WCCO, as they were able to tell a story in a way that I would not have expected. It was about the game, the people and everything in between. To be able to take the mound, and do what he did, under those condition, speaks to his his courage. He did it for his mother, just as she had wanted, according to the story. A remarkable performance, by a remarkable young man.
