Olivia, MN (KROC-AM News) - A western Minnesota man has been charged with murdering his girlfriend's 13-year-old son.

A criminal complaint filed in Renville County Court alleges 38-year-old Houston Morris fatally stabbed the teenage boy at an apartment he shared with the victim's mother in Olivia. He is also accused of assaulting the teenager's mother. Morris is charged with second-degree murder second-degree attempted murder, and second-degree assault.

According to the court documents, officers with the Olympia Police Department responded to the residence shortly before 6 AM Thursday after receiving a report of a domestic altercation in progress. The 13-year-old told dispatchers he had been stabbed in the chest with a knife.

The responding officers found him with life-threatening injuries and he was transported to the hospital where he later died. His mother had a laceration on her head, along with cut wounds on her right hand and "deep purple bite marks" on her left arm.

She told police that she and Morris had been involved in a romantic relationship for about a year and had been living together for the past two weeks. She reported that she and Morris had been arguing in a bedroom when Morris assaulted her by strangling her neck and then hit her on the head with a pipe before picking up a metal bed frame and striking her on the head.

The woman told investigators she was able to retrieve a knife from under her bed, but Morris took it from her and the two then struggled for control of the weapon. The criminal complaint says the teenage boy was awakened by the sounds of the altercation and called 911. It also states he standing behind his mother when Morris allegedly drove the knife towards her but missed and stabbed the 13-year-old in the chest.

Court records show the boy's obtained an Order for Protection against Morris on March 1s after alleging he had assaulted her on several occasions and threatened to kill her. In requesting the protection order, she also alleged Morris and made comments about killing her son.

His conditional bail was set at $350,000 during his formal arraignment Friday afternoon. Morris is due bac in court on April 25.
