After three State Tournament appearances, the Spring Grove Lions have advanced to their first Prep Bowl championship, defeating Stephen-Argyle 27-7. The Lions defense stepped up after allowing one big play, and QB Alex Folz led the way offensively with four touchdowns.

The Lions opened up the game with a great offensive drive, but were unable to put points on the board, turning the ball over on down in the red zone. Two plays later, the Storm had an 84-yard touchdown run and the Lions were trailing 7-0.

There was no panic for Spring Grove, as they road the back of their QB, who continued to make plays with his feet and his arm.

With just over a minute remaining in the first, Folz ran in his first touchdown to tie the game up at 7, and that is where we were at the half.

The Lions came out swarming defensively in the second half, shutting down any offense that the Storm tried to put together. Folz scored his final three touchdowns in the third quarter, to give the Lions the commanding 27-7 lead.

The defense was the most impressive facet of the Lions squad in the State Semifinal, as their defensive line was creating havoc, and not letting any storm player come close to breaking free.

The Lions allowed just 169 total yards, pushing them to the State Championship game. Their opponent is TBD, but we should be in store for a great one on Friday morning, scheduled for a 10 a.m. kickoff.
