Chatfield Defense Dominate in 30-0 Win Over Caledonia

We had the broadcast of the Chatfield Gophers vs. the Caledonia Warriors in Caledonia last night on FUN 104.3 and the Gophers defense was the story in this one.

Sam Backer intercepted a Caledonia pass and returned it to the house to give the Gophers a 6-0 lead. Backer then ran for a 68-yard touchdown to make it 12-0 at the break in favor of the Gophers.

Caledonia's defense was strong throughout the first half, they got excellent pressure and flowed to the football, but Backer was able to make nice cuts, and spin out of tackles to help the Gophers take control in the 2nd half.

Backer connected with Cole Johnson who made a fantastic catch in the endzone to push the lead to 18-0. Parker Delaney then connected on a 63-yard touchdown pass to Grady Schott to extend the lead once more to 24-0. Jackson Schild was the final touchdown-scorer for Chatfield who scored a nice 19-yard run to make it 30-0.

The Gophers intercepted the Warriors three times en route to the win. Chatfield also did a great job of team-tackling to keep the Warriors from breaking off any long plays.

Chris Pieper and Logan Banse had solid games from the Warriors. Defensively they were all over the field making plays. On offense, they were key targets to help the Caledonia offense.

The Gophers move to 2-1 with the win and take on St. Charles next week, while the Warriors are now 1-2 and take on Lewiston-Altura.
