R-P Girls Down Rebels on KFIL
It was a fun one last night on KFIL, as the Rushford-Peterson Trojans defeated the Southland Rebels 66-54 in Adams last night. The Trojans used a 7-0 right out of the second half to push their lead to 12 to secure the victory.
The Rebels and Trojans were playing aggressive, tough defense throughout the game, and it made for an entertaining conference matchup.
The Rebels hit a couple early shots to take a quick lead, but the Trojans battled right back and took a 10-9 lead with 11:30 remaining in the half. The Trojans would hold the lead, and enter the break with a 35-30 lead.
Brianna Koop was fantastic for the Trojans scoring 14 of her 26 points in the first half. The Rebels got a strong first half from Lexi Smith, who had seven points, but made every athletic plays to help keep her team in striking distance going into the second half.
It was tough sledding early, but the Trojans were able to go on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 12. They then tightened up their defense, and the Rebels struggled to score.
The Trojans led by double-digits for a majority of the second half, but Southland wasn't going anywhere, they cut the lead to nine with just under two minutes to go, but they were forced to foul and the Trojans were able to get the win.
Both teams played well. It was a fun game with both teams switching up their defenses to keep their opponent guessing.
In the second half, Koop broke the all-time scoring record at Rushford-Peterson after a free-throw, a great accomplishment for her! Koop led the Trojans with 26, Savannah Skalet added 12, and Nicole Blagsvedt added 11.
For the Rebels, Smith had 16, Kaysie Allen had 13 and Gabrielle Smith had 11. Allen and Smith were all over the place defensively, causing a lot of havoc for the Trojans.
Overall it was a fantastic game, as both teams played hard defense, ran the floor, and crashed the offensive boards.
