We get a TON of requests for Christmas songs on the Y-105FM App, and these are the Top Ten Most Requested Songs from 2019.

  • Frank Sinatra - I'll Be Home for Christmas

I like "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" or "Jingle Bells (the 1950's versions) much more, but this is from the same album and there's so much feeling in it, which is one of the things Frank Sinatra was known for. By the way, it was written for the soldiers in WWII.

  • You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch

From the YouTube video description, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is a Christmas song that was originally written and composed for the 1966 cartoon special How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The lyrics were written by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, the music was composed by Albert Hague, and the song was performed by Thurl Ravenscroft (also known as Tony the Tiger).

  • David Bowie + Bing Crosby - Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth

Performed in 1977, no one really expected this to do well, but boy has it lasted! If you think Bing Crosby sounds a little soft, he was not doing well. He passed away just about a month after this recording.

  • Lizzo - Never Felt Like Christmas

Holy smokes...this song is pretty new (in Christmas Music Terms 2015 is super new) but it. Is. AMAZING! FYI: From her YouTube page:

“I’ve always loved Christmas music. Working in retail deferred my love for it, but time heals all wounds. Ricky Reed and I really enjoyed ourselves in the studio trying to reimagine the modern-day Christmas love story. Not everybody’s in the Christmas spirit these days, but love can give even the biggest Scrooge a little holiday cheer.”

  • The Carpenters - Sleigh Ride

One of the comments on this video says it all, "Oh my God Karen could sing a song about a washing machine and it would always sound beautiful." (Chris Montignani)

PS - For super music nerds, Billy May did the arrangement for this song, just as he did for many Frank Sinatra songs.

  • Barenaked Ladies - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings

    Featuring Sarah McLachlan

The harmonies are amazing...but not sugary, right? Just ... real. From Wiki, "Barenaked for the Holidays...includes Christmas and Hanukkah songs as well as "Auld Lang Syne", which is traditionally sung on New Year's Eve. There are also several songs that are simply about the winter season."

  • José Feliciano - Feliz Navidad

José Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” is a classic that, sadly, always reminds me of Nachos Navidad (at Taco Johns). You may remember he sang their Christmas jingle for a LONG time. Click HERE to see the commercial and how it made me cry a couple years ago.

  • Kelly Clarkson - Underneath the Tree

    The chorus -

You're here where you should be Snow is falling as the carolers sing It just wasn't the same Alone on Christmas day Presents, what a beautiful sight Don't mean a thing if you ain't holding me tight You're all that I need Underneath the tree

  • Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song

Does anyone roast chestnuts on an open fire anymore? No...but it's still an awesome song with Mr. Smooth on the mic.

  • Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You

Number one Christmas song now, and number one Christmas song for many years to come. The single most requested Christmas song we get...which doesn't surprise me at all. It's a bop!
