Rochester Murder Trial Ends in Mistrial
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A mistrial has been declared by the Olmsted County judge presiding over the trial of a Rochester man accused of being involved in an execution-style murder.
The mistrial followed 18 hours of deliberations by members of the jury who told the judge they had found themselves at an unresolvable impasse. Olmsted County prosecutors indicated they intend to pursue a new trial for 32-year-old Muhidin Abukar on an aiding and abetting second-degree murder charge stemming from the shooting death of 28-year-old Garad Roble on March 5, 2019.
The victim was found dead from nearly a dozen gunshot wounds along a rural road at the southeast edge of Rochester. The testimony portion f the trial lasted almost a week, during which the prosecution used witness statements and cell phone tracking data in an effort to link Abukar to the murder and the location where the murder weapon was recovered.
Abukar remains in custody at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. His bail is set at $10 million. A second man charged in the case, Ayub Iman, also remains in the Olmsted County jail and is scheduled to stand trial on the same charge next February.
