The Preston City Council made a tough decision yesterday to cancel Trout Days 2020 in Preston.

According to an email from Executive Director Gabby Kinneberg, it was a tough yet responsible decision to cancel Trout Days this year. With so much unknown, the council was erring on the side of caution.

"Last night the Preston City Council made the tough but responsible decision to cancel Trout Days this year," Kinneberg said "Yes, we know the event is 45 days away. However, with so much unknown, we are erring on the side of caution because nothing is more important to us than the safety and health of our community, volunteers, and attendees."

Kinneberg did hope that residents to donate to local non-profits and emergency response teams throughout the year.

"The proceeds from several Trout Days events help fund many non-profit groups and help our businesses kick off the summer," Kinneberg said. "We encourage you to donate to our local non-profits and emergency response teams today and throughout the year. And don't forget to shop local when you can.

Although Trout Days as a whole has been canceled, Kinneberg did note that some of the events/activities may move to different times of the year.

"Some events may choose to move to a different time this year," Kinneberg said "We will be sure to get the word out should that happen. We also may move some of the fun kid activities to the Fall. At this point, we are taking the wait and see approach.

Kinneberg went on to note that it is a challenging time, but the Chamber and the City Council are committed to working through it and bouncing back next year.

"As challenging as this time is, we're committed to working through it all and coming back better than ever in 2021," Kinneberg said. "We wish you health and peace during this uncertain time. We will get through this together as a community, as a county, as a state and as a country!"

It was also announced Tuesday morning that the Whalan Stand Still Parade would be canceled in 2020, and Syttende Mai in Spring Grove was rescheduled to August 7-9 of 2020.
