Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man accused of assaulting a former girlfriend and pointing a loaded handgun at her has worked out a plea agreement with Olmsted County prosecutors.

A petition to plead guilty filed in Olmsted County Court indicates 63-year-old Dong Lam has agreed to admit to a second-degree assault charge. In exchange, a felony terroristic threats charge and a misdemeanor domestic assault charge will be dismissed.

The charges stem from a violent domestic incident that occurred in southeast Rochester on December 30. Rochester police were called to a residence on a domestic assault report and heard the sounds of a loud argument taking place inside a locked closet. Officers then heard a scream and force the door open.

Inside, they found a 54-year-old woman who was on the floor and Lam pointing a handgun at her. After the officers disarmed Lam, the woman told the officer Lam had come to her home to talk about their relationship, but then punched her several times in the face and pulled out the gun.

The plea deal does not include an agreement on a sentence. That will be argued at a future court hearing. Lam is scheduled to return to court on October 31. He is currently being held in the Olmsted County Jail on $400,000 bail.
