The officiating shortage is real across Minnesota as high school events have been postponed and rescheduled to make sure officiating crews are available. The MSHSL has scheduled an officiating recruitment forum to allow those interested in officiating to learn more about it.

According to a Facebook post from the MSHSL, the free forum will take place on November 10th from 6-7:30 p.m.

The forum will have several speakers at the forum answering questions including Brett Carlson who works at many State Tournaments for the MSHSL, Tim Leighton who is a 30-year official and current Communications Coordinator for the MSHSL, and Jason Nickleby who is the current Coordinator for Officials and has been in the role since 2015.

Even if you are looking for more information on how you can get involved in officiating right here in Southeast Minnesota you can visit the Rochester Area Officials Association page to learn more about joining.

Games can't be played without officials and without them the contest can't be played. I've had the chance to umpire and it is very rewarding to give back to the game. Once you get the itch, it is hard to quit.

If you have the chance or are looking to learn more just register for the MSHSL Officiating Forum or email the RAOA with your questions. They are a great association that is always willing to teach and mentor those who are interested in officiating.
