The Houston Hurricanes are headed to the state tournament, and drew a state power in Minneota in the opening round of the tournament.

The Hurricanes, who are 18-0 on the season, will head to Mankato East High School on Tuesday, March 30th to battle the Vikings. The Vikings, who are 22-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state,  are the champions of Section 3, where they topped Southeast Minnesota Christan 65-48.

It is a battle of two undefeated teams when the Hurricanes and Vikings meet up in the State Quarterfinals.

The 2021 state tournament is looking different this year, as the state was divided into North and South. The four teams in the south were then seeded 1 though 4. Minneota was the top seed in the South, with Houston getting the 4. Mayer Lutheran will take on Sleepy Eye St. Mary's in the South 2 vs.3 matchup.

You can find the full bracket on the MSHSL website.

Minneota has won the last three Section 3A championships, and last year were 31-1 before the State Tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Minneota also won the Class A Tournament in 2019, when they defeated Goodhue 40-31.

Houston and Minneota are two teams that take pride in defense. The Hurricanes allow just 37.3 points per game, while the Vikings allow 38.4. Both teams will lead on their defense to lead the way, and then look to attack the rim on offense.
