There are all sorts of traditions that people have for the holidays but some traditions are a little more... unusual than others. Insider.com looked at different traditions that people have across the country and decided on the most unusual Christmas tradition in each state. And I actually participate in Minnesota's most unusual tradition. Let's see if you do too! But first, I wanted to look into the most unusual traditions in our neighboring states.

In Des Moines, Iowa is a historic building called the Salisbury House. Every holiday season area groups and organizations are encouraged to sign up and get together to decorate one room in the Salisbury House for Christmas. Then a few days before Christmas people can stop by and take tours of these decorated rooms.

During the holiday season in these underground caves, located in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, called Cave of the Mounds local choir groups will gather in the caves and sing Christmas songs. Guests are able to check out the caves while also singing along with the carols. Of course, with all of this going on in a cave the acoustics are crazy.

In the town of Garrison, North Dakota they put on the Dicken's Village Festival every holiday season. Insider.com says that there's "a fruit cake toss, English high tea, top hat decorating, live performances of Dickens' works, horse-drawn carriages, and a whole lot more old-school festivities."

And this is the Deadwood that's a National Landmark that's, as Insider.com describes it, is "a true time capsule into the days of cowboys and the Gold Rush". There are tons of lights, decorations, and a big Christmas Spectacular show that happens during the holidays.

Ok... all of our neighboring states have an "unusual" tradition that's not actually all that unusual. They all sound like fun events! But Minnesota, we get lutefisk. Lutefisk is our unusual Christmas tradition. Do you eat lutefisk on Christmas? Because my family does. Every year for as long as I can remember we've had lutefisk as part of our Christmas dinner. And lefse too, of course.
