Those severe storms that rolled through southeast Minnesota earlier this week caused damage to trees, rooftops and caused some flooding. And a massive strike lightning strike hit one of Rochester's most well-known buildings.

It was Monday night around 5:30 or so when those localized severe storms rolled through parts of our area. The areas most affected seemed to be northeast of the Med City, with areas Goodhue County, near Red Wing seeing some damage. They also caused some severe flooding in parts of western Wisconsin.

My wife and I were in Byron when the storms rolled through and got drenched as we were heading to the car with our dog, Asher. We also noticed some impressive lightning strikes along with some big downpours-- our rain gauge recorded over an inch and a half of rain!

But it was a massive lightning strike to the top of Rochester's historic Plummer Building downtown that made for a impressive picture. KTTC Chief Meteorologist Matt Benz posted the picture on Twitter page, and KTTC did a story on what it was like to be in the tower where the Mayo Clinic's carillon-- those massive bronze bells-- is housed when the lightning hit.

Luckily, no one was hurt and nothing was damaged, but it made for a pretty incredible picture!
