Kid Rock made the holidays very merry for 350 Nashville-area families this season, by paying off their layaway accounts at a local Walmart.

According to the Tennessean, Kid Rock gave the store, located at 3458 Dickerson Pike, roughly $81,000 to settle all the accounts.

"Kudos to Kid Rock for making such a gesture in our community," said Tom Meyer, the store's manager. "I think that's a pretty Nashville proud moment."

Meyer explained that layaways usually consist of holiday presents, as the program is only offered during the holiday season. He described the happy and surprised reactions from layaway customers who came in and were presented with a card explaining the situation, signed "Your neighbor, Kid Rock."

The musician apparently got the idea for this gesture from actor Tyler Perry, who shared on social media that he'd paid off more than $400K in layaway bills at a Georgia Walmart. Kid Rock praised this as a "great idea" and told Perry "God bless you."

HIs efforts drew praise from Walmart's corporate social media, which tweeted "This is awesome" and added "you guys are spreading the Christmas spirit like crazy."

The heartwarming story comes on the heels of controversy for the singer, who was recently ousted as grand marshal for the 2018 Nashville Christmas Parade due to making inappropriate comments about The View host Joy Behar. Kid Rock will be a special guest in the Leiper's Fork Christmas Parade on Dec. 15.
