Gophers Hot Shooting Leads to Win Over Knights on KVGO
The Chatfield Gophers defeated the Kingsland Knights on KVGO last night 78-65 tonight in Spring Valley! It was a hot shooting performance for the Gophers, as five different players hit a three for Chatfield.
It was an early lead for the Gophers, as they jumped out to a 23-10 lead early in the first half. They continued to build that lead as Parker Fossum and Brandon Ebnet connected on multiple 3's in the first half.
The Gophers also got strong play from Bennett Gathje, as he was all over the floor, gathering rebounds, getting assists, and even getting into the scoring column. His stellar defense was also a good point in holding the Knights to 30 points in the first half, while the Gophers had 58.
The 18-point lead continued into the second half, but the Knights were not going to go awhile quietly. The Knights went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 58-44, but the Gophers with an answer of their own that put the game out of reach for the Knights.
The Gopher had a balance scoring attack from Alex Hompe, 14 points, Fossum, 14 points, Nick Maki, 10 points, and Ebnet with 12.
Their balanced scoring and great shooting led the way for the Gophers to ride out the final five minutes of the game. The Knights struggled to shoot the ball, but Zach Buchholtz had a fantastic game, as he poured in 21 points, including connecting on a three pointer. Kingsland also got great play out of Wyatt Pruter, who finished with 14 points.
The Gophers led by 20 late in the second half, but with five minutes to play, and it came with some more balanced scoring from Jason Lowrey and Dillion Bance who finished with nine and seven points, respectfully.
