Frostbite Will Occur In Minutes
The National Weather Service explains that "Wind chill values near minus 25 degrees mean frostbite is possible within 15 minutes." Southeast Minnesota will experience much colder wind chills this week. Wind chill values of 45 to 60 below are expceted tonight through Thursday morning which means exposed skin could freeze in as little as 5-minutes.
Frostbite occurs when the skin, and body tissue under it, freezes. It can be serious and lead to amputation. Limit your time outdoors and when you do go out make sure all skin is covered to protect yourself. The National Weather Service is urging you to take this cold weather seriously. They say this week is a "life-threatening period."
