The Dakota County Sheriff's Office recently shared to their Facebook page a picture of a fast-moving river with a story behind. On Tuesday the Dakota County Sheriff's Office joined other first responders in repelling down a 20-foot rock wall to save a 17-year-old who jumped in the river.

For some unknown reason, a 17-year-old male jumped into the fast-moving Vermillion River on Tuesday and was quickly swept away. That's when Hastings Police, Hastings Fire, and the Dakota County Sheriff's Office were called out to save him.

"On July 2nd, Hastings Fire, Hastings Police, and Dakota County Deputies, showed true team effort while performing a swift water rescue on the Vermillion River. A 17 year old male jumped into the water and was quickly swept away by the current. The male was able to grab a rock where he was thrown a life vest and rescue rope. The male was rescued by responders who repelled down a 20’ rock wall. Thankfully the male was uninjured."

Luckily the boy was able to grab onto a rock and hang on until first responders could reach him. The 17-year-old was found to be uninjured after being brought to shore. On Tuesday the river-lever had surged up from the recent rainfall the area received.
