Winter Storm Watch for Sunday and Monday
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service has expanded a winter storm watch to include Rochester.
The updated map shows the watch area in southeastern Minnesota has grown to cover Olmsted, Mower, Wabasha, and Winona counties, which means most of the southern third of the state is now covered by the watch. In Rochester, it was posted to run from 6 p.m. Sunday until midnight Monday night.
At this point, forecasters say the Rochester area could see a wintry mix that could result in significant icing develop on Sunday and change over to snow on Monday. The precipitation is also forecast to be accompanied by gusty northwest winds. The current snowfall predictions are for 3 to 7 inches in southeastern Minnesota, but forecasters caution the track of the storm system is uncertain and changes could dramatically impact the amount of icing and snow.
