Washington (KROC AM News) - Maybe the entire Congress should become involved in an event organized by a Minnesota politician.
US Senator Al Franken will play host Wednesday to his 7th annual Minnesota Congressional Delegation Hotdish Competition.
The state’s two US Senators and eight Congressional members will cook up a hotdish casserole recipe in hopes of winning the event that has been dominated by First District Congressman Tim Walz. His dish was declared the winner in three of the previous six years.
His “Turkey Taco Hotdish” took top prize in 2016, his "Turkey Trot Tater-Tot Hotdish” won in 2014 and his “Hermann the German Hotdish” took first place in 2013.
According to Franken, “After a long, divisive election year, I’m looking forward to putting partisanship aside by bringing together my Minnesota colleagues in our annual hotdish competition. It’s always fun to see what dishes everyone comes up with, and it’s even more fun to spend some quality time bonding over hotdish with the other members of the Minnesota delegation.”
Franken started the event in 2011 as a way to bring the state Congressional delegation together to put partisanship aside and celebrate a Minnesota culinary tradition.
