With so much construction going on around Rochester these days, it’s easy to miss the work being done on the 100 block of 6th Avenue Southeast, right next to a park and across the river from the Mayo Civic Center.

I drive down that street quite often on my way to work. A few weeks ago, over the course of just a few days, the two houses closest to the park area on that street were demolished and hauled away. Since then, the rain has slowed progress on the project, but it looks as though footings have been poured and other prep work has been done on the site. So, just what is going on there?

It turns out, the site will become an upscale apartment complex. According to the Snow Kreilich Architects website, the building will consist of 29 one- and two-bedroom units, overlooking the Zumbro River, Mayo Park and the Mayo Civic Center and downtown.

The pictures above show what the location currently looks like. Check out the Snow Kreilich Architects web page on the project to see all the details on the project and what it will look like when it’s done. Or just wait a few months and see it in person.

What do you think of the project? Is it a much-needed addition to that side of the river? Or is it something that will forever alter the neighborhood?
