Water Advisory For Rochester Swimming Spot Canceled

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A water advisory posted for Foster Arend Pond in Rochester has been lifted.

The Rochester Parks Department issued the advisory and posted signs at the popular swimming beach later last week after the city was notified a dog had died after spending time in the pond and apparently ingesting some of the water. That raised concerns about the possibility of a blue-green algae bloom and the presence of bacteria called cyanobacteria.

Park Department Director Paul Widman says the advisory has now been lifted because the results of tests conducted by the Minnesota and Olmsted County Health Departments on water samples from the pond came back negative and indicate there are no public health concerns. Widman earlier indicated the advisory was issued as a precaution while the tests were being conducted and the swimming beach remained open.

Widman says he has yet to receive any information concerning the cause of the dog’s death.
