Thursday night, KFIL broadcasted the girl's basketball game between Fillmore Central and Houston. After a one-point game over the holidays, we felt it could be a good one, and it was! The FC Falcons used a 12-0 run to take the early advantage 17-5. Houston's Hurricanes were able to work the deficit down to four at the break 32-28. Two minutes into the second half, the Hurricanes had the game tied at 34. A couple minutes later, the 'Canes had taken their first lead since 2-0 at 39-38. FC quickly grabbed the lead back, and it was back and forth the rest of the way. The Falcons nursed a late lead by hitting five of their last six attempts from the free throw line. The final score was 56-48 as Fillmore Central scored the season non-conference sweep.

The “Player of the Game” awards went to Alyssa Rostad of the Hurricanes, who tied with a  team-high 16 points (7-7 FT) and had 3 assists, and Kenzie Broadwater of the Falcons, who led all scorers with 17, and had 4 steals and 3 assists.

The “Game Ball” was awarded to Tayah Barnes of the Falcons. Taylah had 11 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. She knocked down two key free throws down the stretch for FC in sealing the win.

Last night, KFIL broadcasted the SEC boy's basketball game between Le Roy-Ostrander and Lanesboro. This was was wild! The Cardinals of L-O had the early lead 9-4, but the LHS Burros quickly turned the tables in tune to a 16-5 run and a 20-14 lead. It was nip-and-tuck most of the way for half number one. A late 10-0 Lanesboro run staked them to a 42-38 lead at half. The Cards tied it early in half number two, and the teams traded jabs the rest of the way. With a late 59-54 lead, Lanesboro tried to slow the game down. A couple key misses allowed L-O to cut the lead to 59-58 with about 40 seconds left. Two free throws by freshman Carson Schwichtenberg gave Lanesboro a 61-58 lead. The Cardinals got the ball to their main weapon, senior Josh Royston, who banked in a 3-ball with five ticks left to tie the game and send it to overtime 61-61. L-O knocked down a three on the opening possession in extra time, but Lanesboro scored the final eight points for the very exciting 69-64 win.

The “Player of the Game” award for Le Roy-Ostrander went to two stars. Josh Royston for the game-high 25 points, the tying 3-pointer, and 3 blocked shots, and freshman Trey Hungerholt. Trey had four 'treys', and came up with some monster defensive plays that help the Cards battle back late. He finished with 17 points, 6 steals, and 4 assists. Lanesboro's P-O-G was Carson Schwichtenberg. He matched is jersey number (5) with the number of 3-point buckets, and led LHS with 21 points. He was 4-4 from the free throw stripe and had a couple steals.

The “Game Ball” was awarded to Collin Scott of Lanesboro. Collin, who sat much of the first half in foul trouble, scored two big three pointers in the overtime period. One to tie the game after L-O struck first, and another the next time down the floor to put the Burros up for good. He finished with 12.
