Trojans Use Walk-Off For State Berth
The Trojans scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to take down the Lyle-Pacelli Athletics 7-6 in the Section 1A Title game. Jacob Paulson hit a sacrifice fly to score Dawson Dahl to get the win.
A game for the ages that saw a huge comeback for the Rushford-Peterson Trojans at Dick Seltz Field in Austin.
Lyle-Pacelli scored five runs in the top of the second inning including an RBI single from Zach Bollingberg and a sacrifice fly from Jed Nelson. The Trojans were able to come back and score three in the bottom of the inning, which was capped off with a 2 RBI single from Payton Hahn to make it 5-3.
L/P had the bases loaded in the fourth when Trinity Anderson hit a line drive to left-center field, but Dahl did a great job of getting a read on the ball and had an insane diving catch to strand three runners and save two runs.
The Athletics came back with a run in the fifth when Nelson scored on an error after the Trojans were trying to turn a double play.
Rushford-Peterson was able to shake off the rust in the bottom half of the inning and scored two runs to make it 6-5.
Then in the 7th, Ben Ansell led off the inning with a double and scored on an RBI single from Shawn Marg. Carter Weidemann was walked and then Paulson drove in Dahl for the 7-5 win.
Ansell started the game, but it was Nolan Muller who picked up the win pitching three innings of relief. Bryce Strouf got the start for L/P, and pitched six solid innings, while Cole Walters picked up the loss in the 7th.
It is the second time the Trojan's program has reached the State Tournament.
