Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man charged in a 2019 murder will stand trial - again.

Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem has decided to move ahead with another jury trial for 32-year-old Muhidin Abukar.

A mistrial was declared on Dec 8th in his first trial which was prosecuted by Ostrem. The jury spent 18 hours in deliberations before members declared “an unresolvable impasse.“

The testimony portion of the trial lasted almost a week, during which the prosecution used witness statements and cell phone tracking data in an effort to link Abukar to the killing and the location where the murder weapon was recovered

Abukar has been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder stemming from the shooting death of 28-year-old Garad Roble. The victim was found dead from nearly a dozen gunshot wounds along a rural road at the southeast edge of Rochester.

A second man charged in the case, Ayub Iman, is scheduled to stand trial in February.
