The World’s Smallest Gas Station Can be Found in Northern Minnesota
The world's smallest gas station is right here in Minnesota, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to be exact, and you can still go visit it today! It is not in the original location anymore, but you can still step inside and see just how small it is.
How Small is the World's Smallest Gas Station?
When I say it's a small gas station, I mean it's a REALLY small gas station. The Detroit Lakes Tribune says the world's smallest gas station measures 3.5 feet by 4 feet. The average person couldn't even lay down in this thing. Also, based on pictures it looks like there were only two gas pumps.
The historic gas station gave Detroit Lakes a good amount of publicity back in the day. The Detriot Lakes Tribune says that in 1937 it was featured in a publication of "Ripley's Believe It or Not" and in "Science and Mechanics" magazine in 1949.
Where You Can Find the World's Smallest Gas Station Today
The world's smallest gas station used to be "next to where the Graystone building is today" in Detroit Lakes. However, it's not there anymore, it now is in the lower level of the Becker County Historical Society. So if you are ever in the Detroit Lakes area, you can stop by and check it out!
