Sun Country Airlines Adding 2 Direct Flights From Rochester
If you're looking to book a trip and get out and travel again, Sun Country Airlines just added 18 new direct flights, including 2 from Rochester.
Why Sun Country is Great
My wife and I like to fly on Sun Country Airlines, mainly because they fly out of Terminal 2 at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, which is much less busy and makes it easier to get through security and checked in. And, they often use the smaller terminals at other destinations, as well, making your return trip just as easy. So, this is pretty exciting news-- even though it means we won't have to fly out of MSP. That's because, for the first time ever, Sun Country will be flying out of Rochester International Airport (RST)!
Sun Country Will Soon Fly Out of Rochester
Sun Country is the only airline still headquartered here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and they announced Tuesday morning that they're adding 18 more direct flights-- including 2 leaving from here in Rah-Rah-Rochester. That's right, you'll be able to fly direct from Minnesota's Med City to Fort Meyers, Florida, or Phoenix, Arizona on Sun Country. Here's the thing, though: those new flights aren't scheduled to start until NEXT winter, in February of 2022.
Now, if you don't mind driving up to Bloomington and flying out of MSP, Sun Country's other 7 direct flights start later this year, and include warm-weather destinations like Phoenix, Arizona; Bozeman, Montana; Clearwater and Punta Gorda, Florida; Grand Cayman and Turks and Caicos. And while most of those routes don't begin service until this fall, they're available for booking right now.
And they've added more direct flights from Minneapolis too
Sun Country usually doesn't announce their new seasonal routes until later in the year, but this MSP Business Journal story said that, once again, thanks to the pandemic, things are different. Sun Country noted that there's an impending "April 30 expiration date for thousands of flight vouchers from trips that were canceled last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic," looming, so they announced the new routes to allow Minnesota travelers more options in redeeming those vouchers.
And if you're looking to get away, but don't want to fly, there are some sweet weekend getaways you can take right here in Minnesota. In fact, keep scrolling to check out an awesome scenic Minnesota waterfall road trip that's not too far from Rochester!
