The #2 seeded Hayfield Vikings utilized a 16-3 run to finish the first half to defeat the #7 seeded Rushford-Peterson Trojans 60-48 Wednesday night in a Section 1A Quarterfinal.

The Vikings were able to work the ball inside, and then started to hit shots from all over the floor. At one point, the Vikings hit on nine-straight field goals to help turn an 18-17 deficit to a 34-21 lead at the break.

The big run is what propelled the Vikings to the win, while Rushford-Peterson did everything they could to make their run in the second half.

The Trojans were able to step it up in the second half defensively and did a great job at limiting opportunities for the Vikings. Rushford-Peterson cut the 13-point halftime deficit to five, 43-38, after a Grady Hengel 3. The Trojans were unable to capitalize then as the Vikings went back to work and got to the free-throw line.

Ethan Slatthaug was great for the Vikings, finishing with a team-high 19 points, while Justin Ruberg led the Trojans with 21 points.

The Vikings had an answer for every Trojans run, and it led them to the Section 1A Semifinal, where Hayfield will take on Randolph at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Luke O'Hare added 13 for the Trojans, while Luke Dudycha and Easton Fritcher added 10 for Hayfield.
