Minnesota schools are among the best in the nation and several area districts are among the best in the state.The latest US News & World report on public education quality shows that Minnesota ranks seventh in the nation in pre-K-12 education.

Backgroundchecks.org, an organization created to increase public safety, community involvement, and education, just released their annual rankings of the top school districts in Minnesota and Wayzata Public Schools earned the top spot.

When compiling their list they looked at: student performance (math and reading test scores), dropout rates, school funding, and area poverty rates.

These area school districts landed in the top 100:

#15 Houston Public Schools

#16 Zumbrota-Mazeppa Public Schools

#27 Kasson-Mantorville Public Schools

#32 Stewartville Public Schools

#37 Pine Islane Public Schools

#47 St Charles Public Schools

#59 Lyle Public Schools

#61 Plainview-Elgin-Millville Public Schools

#75 Dover-Eyota Public Schools

#77 Wabasha-Kellogg Public Schools

#85 Rochester Public Schools

#90 Hayfield Public Schools
