Rochester Man Sentenced To More Than 20 Years For Rape Conviction
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man was given a lengthy prison sentence Friday for his conviction in a bizarre sexual assault case.
Olmsted County Judge Kathy Wallace sentenced 57-year-old Scott Ramey to 280 months in prison. He will also be on conditional release for 10 years after he gets out of prison.
He was convicted by a jury in March of 1st and 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct.
He was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old homeless woman several times. The woman accused Ramey of holding her captive in a storage unit near Cooke Park until she was able to escape.
According to the complaint, “The woman said she would tell Ramey “No,” but did not actively fight him because she feared that Ramey would harm her.” The woman said at one point "she told Ramey she wished to leave, and he shoved her forcefully back down to the couch in his shed, produced a gun and pointed it directly at her head, causing her to believe he would kill her if she tried anything.”
She said “Ramey would routinely belittle and threaten her, calling her a “dead deer,” a “prostitute” and uttering threats such as “I’m going to break your leg and throw you down to the river.”
