Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man who pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge involving his mother has been placed on probation for up to 5 years.

The incident happened in January when police say 59-year-old Steve Fitzsimmons got into an argument with his mother and threw a heavy ashtray at her. Police say it hit the 84-year-old woman in the face and initial reports indicated she lost her left eye.

A breath test found Fitzsimmons had a blood/alcohol level of .37.

Fitzsimmons has also been ordered to undergo a chemical dependency evaluation and complete a treatment program.
