Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Bail has been set at $1.5 million for a Rochester man accused of a driveby shooting in Rochester in late October.

22-year-old Aries Candler was arraigned Monday in Olmsted County Court on six felony charges, including first-degree attempted murder and multiple counts of driveby shooting and second-degree assault. The criminal complaint states Candler implicated himself through a text message conversation and captured in a video recording from a security camera near the scene of the shooting.

It occurred on October 29th in the 1200 block of Turnberry Drive Southeast near Eastwood Golf Course. Police reports indicated a man and woman were in an SUV when another vehicle blocked their path and a man opened fire. No one was wounded, but two of the bullets struck the SUV and several hit a nearby home. The charges allege Candler was targeting the man in the SUV because he believed the other man had attempted to sexually assault a female friend.

Candler’s criminal history includes a first-degree aggravated robbery conviction that resulted in a stayed prison sentence and probation. He was accused of shooting a man in the chin during what police described as a drug-related robbery in July 2014.
