Man Accused of Shattering Door of Mayo Clinic Building
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A man is facing a felony property damage charge after prosecutors say he threw a rock that shattered a door at a Mayo Clinic building in downtown Rochester.
Charges filed Tuesday against 37-year-old Matthew Walters say police responded to the report of a shattered door at the Charlton building in the 50 block of 3rd Ave. Northwest on Monday. The officer reported the door was completely shattered and saw shards of glass scattered on the ground, according to the criminal complaint.
A security official estimated damage to the door to be over $1,000. The official also showed the officer a photo of the suspected rock-hurler. The officer identified the subject as Walters based on prior interactions, the complaint states.
Walters was apprehended later that day in the 600 block of Civic Center Dr. and then brought to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. He was formally charged for first-degree damage to property in Olmsted County Court Tuesday and was released without bail but with conditions.
