Rochester Commission Denies Controversial Zone Change Request
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A requested zone change in a Rochester neighborhood for a proposed housing project has been turned down by a city commission.
The Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-2 against the request during its Wednesday evening meeting.
The vote came after the commission heard lengthy testimony, some from neighbors who are opposed to the project.
The request for the zone change came from Ben Kall, who is a member of the commission. He did not take part in the discussion or vote.
Kall has been working on a project that would be located on the west side of 14th Ave SW, about two blocks south of the St Marys Hospital campus. The site is also a block east of Folwell School. Kall has been looking at a multi-family attached rowhouse development on the site.
Staff recommended approval of the zone change.
The commission’s recommendation will next be taken up by the City Council.
News update: Another pedestrian has been killed in Plymouth.
