Repeat DUI Offender From Rochester Sentenced For DUI Injury Crash
Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been given a stayed six-year prison sentence but he will be required to spend a month in jail each year for the next seven years for driving drunk and crashing into another vehicle on I-90 in December 2018.
33-year-old Jacob Kaput was also ordered today to serve 7 years on probation and pay $4,500 in restitution. He recently pleaded guilty to a felony DWI charge in Mower Court through a plea deal that led to the dismissal of several gross misdemeanor charges.
Kaput, who was on probation for a previous felony DUI conviction in Freeborn County and had four previous drunk driving offenses on his criminal record, drove his pickup into the back of another pickup near Dexter. The crash left the other driver, 23-year-old Harvey Friedrichs of Rochester, with significant injuries. After the crash, Kaput’s blood-alcohol-level was tested at over twice the legal limit.
