Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Pine Island man has been sentenced to four years in prison for an arson conviction.

In addition to the prison time, 52-year-old Michael Drury has also been ordered to pay more than $645,000 in restitution. He earlier entered a Norgaard plea to the first-degree arson charge. That means he admits his guilt but does not remember his actions due to impairment from drugs or alcohol. As part of a plea agreement, kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault, burglary, and terroristic threats charges were dropped.

Drury was accused of abducting an ex-girlfriend in Rochester in October of last year and forcing her to drive to Pine Island, where the victim says he threatened to kill her and "chop her up into little pieces.", The criminal complaint also says he threatened to kill anyone else he found in her residence.

The woman then managed to escape and call 911. The responding deputies found him in the woman's townhome and Drury admitted starting a fire inside the residence. He then went outside, where he encountered a deputy, who tasered Drury when he attempted to run back inside the burning residence.

The fire cause severe damage and the townhome was declared a total loss.

Drury entered into the plea agreement about 2 weeks after an Olmsted County Judge ruled he was competent to stand trial on the charges.
