New Features at Gopher Football Games
As the Gophers get set to open their season Thursday, August 29 against South Dakota State, the University of Minnesota has announced some new fan-friendly features at TCF Bank Stadium. Cheaper food, new food, and more TVs highlight the updates.
The university will unveil the Gameday Gopher Hour for the first hour that ticket gates are open. Lower priced food and beverage will be available during that time in the West Plaza. Two-dollar hot dogs, $4 popcorn, $5 beer, and $6 wine are among the special prices. The Gopher Hour will run from 5:30 - 7:30 pm for the opener. The game against the Jackrabbits kicks off at 8 pm.
Fans can also try some new food items. Goldy's Grill will have Hormel fontanini bratwurst. A foot-long hot dog with Philly cheese or mac and cheese can be found. Flat Top will offer a variety of gourmet burgers and chicken tenders.
Fans can go through the Row-and-Go self-service kiosk near section 138. More and more stadiums are offering this way to quickly grab some snacks and beverages. I've seen such set-ups at Xcel Energy Center and Allianz Field.
The university has added new television monitors throughout the stadium. TCF Bank Stadium also features new state-of-the-art turf with a return to the maroon end zones with gold lettering. Any fans testing the new turf during game day however, might be escorted out of the stadium. Instead, run Goldy's Run in April to get that on-the-field experience.
University students can download the Game Point app for a chance at cash and prizes for attending, and staying at, Gopher games. Minnesota has seven home games this season.
