Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Austin woman is facing a murder charge in connection with the drug overdose death of a 22-year-old Austin woman.

A criminal complaint filed today in Mower County Court also charges 43-year-old Tashica Thomas with second-degree manslaughter and a count of second-degree drug sales related to the fatal overdose and three other felony drug charges stemming from a search warrant executed at her residence on Wednesday that resulted in the seizure of quantities of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Thomas is accused of selling the overdose victim the fentanyl that resulted in his death at his mother's home in Austin on March 8th, 2022. The criminal complaint indicates Austin Police identified the woman as the suspect when they examined the victim's phone and found messages from him to Thomas discussing the purchase of drugs.

A search warrant was obtained for her residence, which led to the discovery of "multiple tin foil folds with suspected fentanyl and other items indicative of the sale of fentanyl." The court document says that after she was read a Miranda warning, Thomas told investigators she sold drugs to support her habit and "make a little extra money." She also stated that she had sold fentanyl to the overdose victim on the day he died.

Thomas was formally arraigned on the charges this morning and her conditional bail was set at $250,000. She is due back in court on September 15.
