The Ice Castles are on the move. Well, technically they haven't been made yet this winter, but once they start, it'll be in a completely different city. For the past two years, Stillwater was home to the popular winter attraction, but because of construction, it can't be this year. Instead, you'll find them in Excelsior.

Fortunately, it's not a significant difference travel-wise for us Rochester folk. It added an extra 10 minutes of drive time. Still well worth the drive.

Never been to Excelsior? According to their website, it's a beautiful lakeside community nestled on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. With a relaxing atmosphere and a number of things to do, the community of Excelsior is perfect for a weekend getaway or a day trip. With a small downtown and a historic ambiance, Excelsior boasts a variety of boutiques, antique stores, restaurants, and now – Ice Castles!

Weather permitting, they would start making ice and building the castle between November 20th with a goal of opening before the end of December. It's been an unusually cold November, so chances are they'll get started soon.
