The Lanesboro Burros hit key shots late in the second half to come back and beat the Mabel-Canton Cougars 53-48 in Lanesboro Friday night.

It was an exciting game down to the end as the Mabel-Canton Cougars were able to hit some big shots late in the first half to build a 24-19 lead at the break. The Cougars then wen ton a quick 12-7 run to push their lead to 10, 36-26.

The Burros then went to work, chipping away at the lead with some nice defense and some nice shooting. After a pair of 3's made by Brielle Ruen and Alida Berg, the Burros were back in the game with under 5 minutes to go.

Payton Benson hit a huge three with 4:30 left to make it 46-44 and gave the Burros their first lead since they led 5-2 early in the game.

Mabel-Canton was riding the hot-hand of Payton Danielson, who finished with a game-high 17 points. Lanesboro was able to slow Danielson down late in the game, which helped spark the comeback.

Camryn Cox hit two free-throws with 2:30 to go in the game to even it up at 46, but Benson again hit a three, from nearly the same spot on the floor, as the dagger and a 49-46 lead. From there, the Burros were able to hit at the free-throw line to get the 53-48 win.

Benson finished with 12, Jessie Schriber added 12 and Brielle Ruen had 10 to lead Lanesboro. Danielson had 17 to Mabel-Canton followed by 10 from Lauren Wyffels.
