I went to my neighborhood Kwik Trip to pick up a Hazelnut latte on Monday. I love going on Mondays because the Karuba Golds are super cheap. As most do on Mondays, I needed some caffeine so I wanted a large, but they were out of large cups. I settled for the smaller size and kindly told the cashier about the cup situation as I was checking out. She explained that they were experiencing a shortage on cups because of supply chain issues and I didn't give it much thought until...

I was scrolling Facebook today and saw the Wisconsin-based chain hint at some foul play. Now, Kwik Trip's social media pages are filled with humorous posts so I'll let you be the judge on whether or not something sinister happened. Read the full post below.

Here's what the Wisconsin based chain just posted to Facebook:

Actually, a gas station that shall not be named stole them... I wish I was kidding.

"Hello, fellow coffee drinkers. We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this important message.

Here's the thing: due to a few ships stuck at sea, we're out of coffee cups. (Actually, a gas station that shall not be named stole them... I wish I was kidding.) Long story short, we would love for you to Bring Your Own Cup if possible. Good news? You can temporarily get any size refill for just 99¢.

Save some money, save some paper, save some cups. Here's 99 ideas to get you started.

With love and caffeination,

Your Kwik Trip Family"

What do you think? Are they joking? Is this a publicity stunt? Will we ever know which gas station did this?

Guys the part about the ships was a joke. Our cups are domestically sourced and were, in fact, taken from us.

Another reply to a customer clearly explains that a rival convenience store is the culprit.

Hi Justin! Our cups are domestically sourced. The part about the ships was a joke to minimize the reality of another c-store actually stealing our inventory.
